Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been confirmed by testing to have early-stage invasive breast cancer that is sensitive to the hormones estrogen and/or progesterone
- People who have already completed 5 years of standard hormone-blocking (endocrine) therapy with no signs of the cancer coming back or spreading
- People between 18 and 70 years of age
- People who have at least one of the following features of their cancer: a high cell growth rate (KI67 of 30% or more); a tumor larger than 2 cm; cancer that has spread to nearby lymph nodes; cancer cells that look very abnormal under a microscope (grade III); cancer cells found inside nearby blood or lymph vessels; or a cancer type known as HER-2 positive
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a history of any other type of cancer
- People who have serious problems with major organs such as the heart, liver, or kidneys, or whose general health is too poor to handle extended treatment
- People who have severe bone thinning (osteoporosis) or serious problems with blood fat levels, or whose health does not allow them to tolerate hormone-blocking therapy
- People who are already taking part in another clinical trial
