Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are scheduled to have mitral valve (heart valve) surgery using a heart-lung bypass machine
- Before your surgery, a special ultrasound test of your heart showed that the blood pressure in your lung arteries is significantly high (at or above a certain level measured during that test)
Who may not be able to join:
- Your surgery is planned without using a heart-lung bypass machine
- You are currently in an unstable condition before surgery, meaning you already need medications or a medical device to keep your blood pressure and circulation stable
- You have severely reduced heart pumping function (your heart is pumping less than 30% of its normal capacity)
- You have a heart condition that was present from birth (congenital heart disease)
- You have a medical reason why a special ultrasound probe placed in the throat and esophagus (food pipe) cannot be used during surgery
- Your surgery is an emergency or a repeat operation on the same area
- You have serious kidney or liver disease
- You have a blood clotting disorder or a history of blood clots being treated with blood-thinning medications
