Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer confirmed by laboratory tissue analysis
- People whose prostate cancer has continued to grow or spread despite having very low testosterone levels (sometimes called castration-resistant prostate cancer)
- People whose scans show that prostate cancer has spread to the bones
- People who are experiencing symptoms caused by their prostate cancer
- People who are planned to receive a treatment called radium-223
- People whose PSA (a prostate cancer blood marker) level is 10 ng/mL or higher
- People who have had a blood test within the last 3 months confirming their testosterone is at castrate (very low) levels
- People whose doctors expect them to survive for more than 3 months
- People who are willing and able to give their informed consent to participate
- People who are willing and able to attend follow-up visits and follow the study requirements
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer has spread to internal organs such as the liver or lungs (known as visceral metastasis)
- People who are receiving radium-223 together with other cancer-fighting drugs (note: bone-protecting medications such as denosumab or zoledronic acid are allowed)
- People who have previously received radium-223 treatment
- People who have previously received chemotherapy containing platinum
- People whose blood test shows their white blood cell count (specifically neutrophils) is too low
- People whose blood test shows their haemoglobin (a measure of red blood cells) is too low
- People whose blood test shows their platelet count is too low
- People who have any other condition that the trial doctor believes would make participation unsuitable (confirm with trial site)
