Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are having their ACL (a knee ligament) reconstructed for the first time
  • People between the ages of 25 and 50
  • People who also have an injury to the meniscus (the cartilage cushion in the knee)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are having a repeat or revision surgery on a previously repaired ACL
  • People who have injuries to more than one knee ligament, all of which need surgical repair or reconstruction
  • People who are experiencing significant symptoms of depression or thoughts of suicide at the time of joining the trial, as measured by a standard questionnaire (PHQ-9 score of 15 or higher)
  • People for whom no meniscus tear is found during surgery
