Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the study
- You are well enough to carry out daily activities with little or no limitation (your doctor rates your general health as reasonably good)
- Your prostate cancer has been confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy) showing a specific type called adenocarcinoma
- Your cancer has spread to other parts of the body beyond the prostate (known as stage M1)
- You have not had any treatment for prostate cancer other than hormone therapy (to lower testosterone levels)
- You are planned to have long-term hormone therapy lasting more than 9 months
- You are willing and able to fill in quality of life questionnaires and take part in other assessments required by the study
- If you are being considered for a specific type of internal radiation treatment (brachytherapy), your bladder function and prostate size must be suitable for that treatment, as decided by the doctor
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer has spread widely, meaning you have 5 or more bone metastases, or the cancer has spread to internal organs such as the liver or lungs
- You have a condition or history that makes external radiation to the pelvis unsafe, such as active inflammatory bowel disease or previous radiation treatment to the pelvic area
- If you are being considered for the internal radiation (brachytherapy) part of the trial, you have previously had a surgical procedure to remove prostate tissue through the urethra (called a TURP) (confirm with trial site)
