Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older
- People with a confirmed diagnosis (proven through tissue testing) of a specific type of oesophageal or gastro-oesophageal junction cancer — including adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma, or carcinoma of the gastro-oesophageal junction (Siewert type I or II)
- People whose cancer is considered surgically removable, based on its stage (classified as T1–4a, N0–3, M0)
- Women who could potentially become pregnant must have a negative pregnancy test before joining
- People who are willing and able to provide written agreement to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People with stage IV oesophageal cancer, or a specific cancer location classified as gastro-oesophageal junction Siewert type III
- People for whom a particular type of surgery (transthoracic oesophagectomy in two fields) is not considered medically safe or appropriate
- People with another current or previous cancer, or other medical conditions, that could interfere with the trial — for example, people who have previously had chest (thoracic) surgery or a significant chest injury, as this may affect the type of surgical approach that can be used (confirm with trial site)
