Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are having surgery to remove a small wrist bone at the base of the thumb (called a trapeziectomy) to treat thumb arthritis
- People who can read and communicate in English
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently pregnant
- People who are currently taking opioid pain medications
- People who are having additional procedures at the same time as their thumb surgery (for example, combined thumb surgery and carpal tunnel release surgery)
- People who are unable to fill out study forms due to factors such as education level, thinking or memory difficulties, mental health conditions, or medical conditions
- People who have an allergy or intolerance to ibuprofen, acetaminophen (paracetamol), and/or oxycodone
- People who have liver or kidney problems, or abnormal liver test results, that would make it unsafe to take acetaminophen or ibuprofen
- People with a history of ongoing heart failure, bleeding in the upper digestive tract, or blood clotting problems
- People who have previously experienced complex regional pain syndrome (a chronic pain condition that can develop after injury or surgery)
