Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who had a stroke on the left side of the brain (either a blocked blood vessel or a bleed) at least 12 months before joining the trial.
- People who have spoken English as their primary language for at least the last 20 years.
- People who are able to give their own consent to participate, or who are able to indicate someone else to give consent on their behalf.
- People who are between 21 and 80 years of age.
- People who are able to safely have a 3-Tesla MRI scan — for example, those who have no metal implants in their body and do not experience severe claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces).
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a history of any other brain-related neurological disease, such as a traumatic brain injury.
- People whose ability to speak or understand speech is severely limited to the point that it would interfere with taking part in the therapy (confirm with trial site for specific scoring details).
- People who have previously had a stroke on the right side of the brain.
- People who have had a stroke affecting both sides of the brain, the cerebellum, or the brainstem.
- People who are unable to safely have a 3-Tesla MRI scan for any reason.
- People whose speech is not clear enough to give accurate responses during speaking and naming tasks.
