Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had a stroke at least 6 months ago and are currently in a stable medical condition
- People who have had a single stroke affecting one side of the body only (both ischemic — caused by a blockage — and hemorrhagic — caused by bleeding — strokes are considered, regardless of the stroke's size)
- People who have some detectable stiffness or increased muscle tension in their finger flexors (the muscles that curl the fingers), as measured by a standard clinical scale
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have problems with their vision, difficulty paying attention to one side of their environment, hearing difficulties, or cognitive (thinking and memory) problems
- People who have a history of lung conditions such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- People who are currently in the process of changing medications used to manage muscle stiffness or tone (for example, baclofen)
- People who have received botulinum toxin (such as Botox) injections to the arm or fingers within the last 4 months, or phenol injections within the last 2 years
- People who have a pacemaker (a device implanted in the chest to help regulate the heartbeat)
- People who are currently pregnant
