Who might be able to join this trial:
- You currently experience moderate to severe symptoms such as hallucinations, unusual beliefs, suspicion of others, or disorganized thinking (as measured by a standard rating scale)
- You have tried at least one antipsychotic medication for at least 6 weeks and it did not work well enough
- You are able to understand and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
- If you are a woman, you have a negative pregnancy test and agree to use an accepted form of birth control during the trial
- You have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or schizophreniform disorder
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a serious neurological condition (such as epilepsy) or a serious hormonal/gland-related condition (confirm with trial site)
- You have a medical condition that requires you to take medication that affects your mood, thinking, or behaviour
- You are considered to be at significant risk of harming yourself or others
- You have significant memory or thinking difficulties, or language barriers that would make it hard to understand and sign the consent form
- You have any health reasons that would make electroconvulsive therapy (ECT, a treatment using electrical stimulation) unsafe for you
- You have any health reasons that would make an MRI scan unsafe for you, such as having a pacemaker
