Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have a medical reason to have a left atrial appendage closure (a procedure to close off a small pouch in the heart) and are having this procedure done at Gottsegen National Cardiovascular Center between 10 March 2021 and 31 December 2025
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who have given their informed consent to take part
- People who have the legal capacity to make their own decisions
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age
- People who are pregnant
- People who have been legally determined to lack decision-making capacity
- People who have not given consent to participate
- People who have a narrowing or an abnormal pouch in the esophagus (the tube connecting the throat to the stomach)
- People who have active bleeding in the esophagus
- People who have an allergy to the dye used in CT scans (contrast agent)
- People with severe chronic kidney disease (where the kidneys are functioning at a very low level)
- People who have a blood clot in the left atrial appendage (the area of the heart the procedure targets) that is mobile or considered high risk
- People whose life expectancy is less than 12 months
- People with an active infection
- People with significant narrowing of the mitral heart valve
- People who have a mechanical (artificial) heart valve
- People for whom open heart surgery has been recommended
