Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had a stroke on one side of the brain only
- People whose stroke happened more than 6 months ago
- People whose weakness or paralysis affects only one side of their body
- People who are able to walk on their own, with or without a walking aid such as a cane or walker
- People who are able to walk for 5 minutes without stopping
- People who answer "no" to all health questions on a standard exercise readiness questionnaire called the PAR-Q+ (confirm with trial site)
- People who are willing to complete all parts of the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose stroke affected the brainstem or cerebellum (lower and back parts of the brain)
- People who have difficulty speaking, understanding speech, or both as a result of their stroke
- People who have a significant muscle, bone, or nervous system condition (unrelated to their stroke) that could affect movement or thinking assessments
- People who have metal in their head (outside of the mouth), or any implanted device in the head or chest that would make an MRI scan unsafe
- People with high blood pressure that is not well controlled (above 160/110 mmHg)
- People who are currently receiving physical therapy
- People who experience claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
- People who have significant memory or thinking difficulties, based on a standard cognitive test score below 20 out of 30 (confirm with trial site)
- People who are not able to give their own informed consent to participate
