Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 16 years old or older
- You have been diagnosed with active Crohn's disease, confirmed by a standard disease activity score (confirm with trial site)
- You are about to start a standard course of a medication called adalimumab (also known as a TNF-alpha blocker) for the first time
Who may not be able to join:
- You are unable or unwilling to give written consent to take part
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding

- You have short bowel syndrome (a condition where part of the small intestine is missing or not working properly)
- You have previously been treated with any anti-TNF medication (a type of biological drug that targets inflammation)

- You are currently taking steroid tablets or steroid infusions at a dose higher than a certain level (confirm with trial site)
- Your dose of certain immune-suppressing medications (such as azathioprine, mercaptopurine, or methotrexate) has been started or changed in the last 8 weeks
- You have taken oral antibiotics in the last 4 weeks
- Your Crohn's disease mainly involves large fistulas (abnormal tunnels in the body) or significant narrowing/scarring of the bowel
- You have tested positive for certain blood-borne viruses such as HIV or hepatitis
- You have untreated tuberculosis (TB), whether active or in a dormant/latent form
