Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 16 to 35 years
- People who have had a single ACL reconstruction surgery (on one knee only, for the first time), using a graft taken from their own patellar tendon and bone
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously torn their ACL or had a previous ACL reconstruction surgery
- People who have had any prior surgery on their knee
- People who needed more than one ligament repaired at the time of their ACL reconstruction
- People who had other injuries or procedures at the time of their ACL reconstruction that would slow down early recovery and walking, such as a broken bone in the leg or a specific type of cartilage repair procedure
- People who had more than one-third of the cartilage cushioning (meniscus) on either side of the knee removed during ACL reconstruction
- People who had significant cartilage damage in the knee at the time of ACL reconstruction (confirm with trial site for exact grading details)
- People who had a musculoskeletal injury to either leg in the 3 months before joining the trial (other than the ACL injury itself)
- People who have previously been diagnosed with arthritis in any joint of the lower limb, detected on imaging
- People with a history of a neurological condition, such as stroke or multiple sclerosis
- People for whom MRI scanning is not safe, such as those with extreme claustrophobia, a pacemaker, cochlear implant, certain metal implants, or similar
- People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
