Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had their first-ever stroke on the left side of the brain, within the last 3 months before joining the study, or people who are healthy volunteers with no history of stroke
- People aged between 18 and 80 years old
- People who were fluent in English and able to read English before their stroke
- People who show reading difficulties, as measured by a specific reading test called the Reading Comprehension Battery for Aphasia (2nd edition), making more than 3 errors on certain sections of that test
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to give consent to participate or who are unable to complete the tasks required by the study
- People who are unable to have an MRI scan — for example, due to pregnancy, having implants in the body that are not compatible with MRI machines, or severe claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
- People who have a history of a prior brain or neurological condition, such as a brain tumour or Alzheimer's disease
