Who might be able to join this trial:

• People whose cancer has been confirmed by laboratory testing as esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, with tissue samples taken before any treatment began
• People whose esophageal tumor is located in the chest (thoracic) area
• People whose cancer was staged as Stage II or III before treatment, based on international staging guidelines (AJCC/UICC 8th Edition)
• People aged between 18 and 75 years
• People who are reasonably active and able to carry out daily activities (rated 0 or 1 on a standard medical scale), with an expected survival of at least 12 months
• People whose heart is functioning adequately, confirmed by an ECG, and — for those with a heart history or abnormal ECG — an echocardiogram showing the heart pumping at more than 50% efficiency

• People whose esophageal cancer is a type other than squamous cell carcinoma
• People whose cancer is at an advanced, inoperable, or spread (metastatic) stage

• People who have, or have had, another cancer that could interfere with treatment or results, in the opinion of the treating surgeon
• People who have already received, or are currently receiving, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or targeted therapy
• People who have a history of autoimmune diseases
• People who are currently taking, or have recently taken, corticosteroids (such as prednisone) or medications that suppress the immune system
• People who have previously received immunotherapy
• People who are allergic to antibody-based drugs, or to the chemotherapy drugs Paclitaxel or Carboplatin
• People with ongoing or recurring autoimmune disease
• People with active HIV, Hepatitis B, or Hepatitis C infections, or who test positive for these viruses
• People who have had an organ transplant, including bone marrow or stem cell transplants
• People with serious ongoing illnesses such as active infections, poorly controlled diabetes, blood clotting disorders, or who are on blood-thinning treatments
• People with significant heart disease (such as active coronary artery disease or a heart attack within the past 12 months), or significant lung, bone marrow, liver, or kidney problems
• People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or capable of becoming pregnant and not willing to use contraception during the trial
• People currently participating in, or who have participated in within the past 30 days, another clinical trial that could interfere with this study's treatments
• People considered unlikely to be able to follow the study's requirements
