Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis at a moderate level (known as Kellgren-Lawrence Grade II or III)
• People who have had knee pain for at least three months, with pain occurring on more than half of the days during that time
• People whose pain scores at least 4 out of 10 on a standard pain scale
• People aged between 40 and 75 years old (inclusive)
• Women who have not yet reached menopause must be using two effective forms of birth control that together result in less than a 1% chance of pregnancy per year when used correctly and consistently

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have had an injection into the knee (such as cortisone, PRP, or hyaluronic acid) within the last three months
• People who are legally or mentally unable to make decisions for themselves (for example, due to Alzheimer's disease or dementia)
• People younger than 40 or older than 75 years of age
• Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Children or people considered vulnerable under research guidelines
• People with a history of cannabis misuse or dependence
• People with blood clotting problems or a history of blood clot-related disease, or whose current blood clotting test results are abnormal
• People who have had a stroke or a serious heart event within the last three months
• People with kidney failure (above a specific level measured by a blood test) or scarring of the liver (cirrhosis)
• People who were taking opioid pain medications just before the start of the study
• People with a known inflammatory type of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, or pseudogout
• People with a large build-up of fluid in the knee joint
• People with a Body Mass Index (BMI) above 35
• People diagnosed with a major psychiatric illness such as bipolar disorder, as defined by standard diagnostic guidelines
• People diagnosed with major depression, psychosis, or a substance use disorder
• People with a current or past history of thoughts of suicide
• People with abnormal liver function test results
• People with significant liver disease at a moderate or severe level (assessed using a standard medical scoring system)
• People with major neurological conditions such as dementia, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, cognitive impairment, a history of serious head injury, or seizures
• People taking certain medications that affect how the body processes drugs — including specific enzyme blockers or activators — may be excluded if the treating doctor determines this poses a meaningful clinical concern (confirm with trial site)
