Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 70 years old or older
- You (or your legal representative) have read, understood, and signed the consent form for the study

- For the patient group: you have been diagnosed with possible or probable Alzheimer's disease according to recognised medical guidelines
Who may not be able to join:
- You have been diagnosed with a brain or nervous system degenerative disease other than Alzheimer's disease
- You have been diagnosed with any condition that significantly affects memory or thinking, other than Alzheimer's disease
- You have or have previously had any type of cancer, including cancers of the mouth or throat
- You have or have previously had an autoimmune or infectious disease such as HIV or hepatitis
- You have an inflammatory disease such as rheumatoid arthritis or Sjögren's syndrome
- You have a serious blood disorder
- You have a serious ongoing or long-term condition affecting the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, digestive system, hormones, or mental health that the study doctor believes could affect the results
- You have had oral (mouth) surgery in the two months before the study sample is taken
- You are currently taking certain medications including oral retinoids, bisphosphonates, blood thinners, or anti-seizure medicines (confirm with trial site)
- You have received chemotherapy or immune-suppressing treatment in the last 6 months
- You have taken antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medicines in the last 4 weeks
- You have taken any drugs or probiotics in the month before sampling, or you regularly use tobacco, alcohol, or other substances (confirm with trial site)
