Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are scheduled for an upper endoscopy (a camera procedure to look inside your throat and stomach) or have had one within the past three years
  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You are able to provide a saliva (spit) sample
  • You are able to understand and sign a consent form agreeing to take part
  • If you have Barrett's esophagus specifically: your condition has been confirmed by a camera procedure and tissue sample showing changes in the lining of your food pipe of at least a certain size

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a history of cancer in your head, neck, food pipe (squamous cell type), or stomach
  • You have previously had surgery on your food pipe or stomach
  • You are scheduled to have a colonoscopy (bowel camera procedure) on the same day as your saliva sample is collected
  • You are only scheduled for certain specialist procedures (ERCP or ultrasound endoscopy) without a standard upper endoscopy on the same day as saliva collection
  • If you have Barrett's esophagus specifically: you have previously received treatment to your food pipe for this condition — although having had a certain type of tissue removal procedure (endoscopic mucosal resection) for a small area, without follow-up burning treatment, may still be allowed (confirm with trial site)
