Who might be able to join this trial:

For people with ALS:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You have been diagnosed with ALS based on recognised medical guidelines called the Gold Coast criteria
  • Your lung function (how much air your lungs can hold) is at least 30% of what is expected for someone of your age, height, and gender — or the trial doctor may consider you eligible on a case-by-case basis
  • You are able to understand what the study involves and can give your agreement to take part
  • You are able to follow the study's schedules and requirements, in the opinion of the trial doctor

For healthy volunteers (people without ALS):

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You have no history of any neurological (brain or nervous system) conditions, in the opinion of the trial doctor
  • You have not been found to carry any genetic changes known to be linked to ALS
  • You are able to understand what the study involves and can give your agreement to take part
  • You are able to follow the study's schedules and requirements, in the opinion of the trial doctor

Who may not be able to join:

  • Healthy volunteers who have a history of any neurological disease (confirm with trial site)
  • Healthy volunteers who carry genetic mutations known to be associated with ALS
  • Anyone under the age of 18
  • Anyone who is unable to understand the study or give informed consent
