Who might be able to join this trial:

• Adults aged 18 years or older
• People who are willing and able to give written consent and follow the study procedures
• People who had their stroke at least 6 months ago
• People who have weakness or paralysis on one side of the body caused by a single stroke
• People who need continuous or intermittent support from one person to help with balance and coordination when walking
• People who are not currently receiving regular physical therapy
• People whose doctor has approved their participation

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have problems with coordination and balance caused by ataxia
• People who have had more than one stroke
• People who have had Botox injections in a leg within the last 4 months
• People with a high level of muscle stiffness or spasticity in a leg, as measured by a clinical scoring tool (confirm with trial site)
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People who use an implanted heart device such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, or heart pump, or an implanted pump used to reduce muscle stiffness
• People with active pressure sores or wounds on the skin
• People with bone fractures that have not fully healed
• People with nerve damage in the limbs (peripheral neuropathy)
• People with painful joint or muscle problems due to an active injury or infection
• People with severe tightening of muscles or tendons in the legs that limits movement
• People with a medical illness that limits their ability to walk
• People with an active urinary tract infection
• People with significant depression, psychiatric conditions, or ongoing drug misuse
• People with active cancer, or who have been in cancer remission for less than 5 years
• People with a bone, joint, or surgical issue in a leg that would affect their ability to use it
• People with a traumatic brain injury or other neurological condition that could affect the study results

For the brain stimulation (TMS) part of the study only, people may also not be able to join if they:

• Are taking medications known to increase or decrease how active the brain's movement system is (confirm specific medications with trial site)
• Have an implanted cardiac pacemaker
• Have any metal implants in the head or face
• Experience recurring headaches with no known cause
• Have had a seizure unrelated to their stroke, or have epilepsy
• Have any abnormalities or fractures in the skull
• Have had a concussion within the last 6 months
• Have unstable heart, breathing, or metabolic conditions such as uncontrolled high blood pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, irregular heartbeat, or severe chronic lung disease
