Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who have had a stroke at least 8 months ago, where the stroke affected the primary motor area of the brain
- People who have weakness or partial paralysis on one side of the body (called hemiparesis)
- People who retain some ability to move both the shoulder and the elbow on the affected side
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have weakness or paralysis on both sides of the body
- People with severe loss of touch sensation, based on a specific touch sensitivity test (confirm with trial site)
- People with severe difficulty sensing the position or movement of their own body
- People with severe muscle stiffness that prevents movement, based on a clinical stiffness scale score
- People with communication difficulties, thinking or memory problems, or emotional or mood conditions that could affect participation in the study
- People with vision problems or difficulty paying attention to one side of space that would prevent seeing targets during the study
- People who are not able to give informed consent to participate
- People with serious current medical conditions
- People whose stroke damage affects multiple areas of the brain, or who have had more than one stroke
- People who are unable to get into or hold the required positions for testing
- People who have had Botox injected into the affected arm within the past 4 months
- People currently taking part in any other upper arm rehabilitation program, whether as part of a research study or as a prescribed therapy
- People who have previously taken part in a similar robotics-based study
- People with other neurological conditions
- People who are pregnant
- People under 18 years of age, including infants, children, and teenagers
- People who are incarcerated
- People who are unable to consent for themselves, or who are considered part of a vulnerable population (confirm with trial site)
