Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 69 years old
- People receiving radiation therapy for squamous cell cancer of the oropharynx (back of the throat), larynx (voice box), or hypopharynx (lower throat)
- People with a specific stage of cancer (not spread to distant parts of the body) that has been confirmed by a tissue test, where radiation to both sides of the neck is needed and at least one submandibular gland (a saliva-producing gland under the jaw) can be protected from radiation
- People whose planned treatment includes radiation therapy combined with chemotherapy (unless chemotherapy is not suitable for them)
- People with a reasonably good level of physical functioning, as measured by a standard medical score (confirm with trial site)

- People who are able to complete quality-of-life questionnaires in English or Hindi
- People who are willing to undergo a FEES procedure (a camera test to assess swallowing)
- People who have provided written consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People with early-stage glottic (vocal cord) cancer at a specific low stage with no spread to lymph nodes or distant sites
- People whose cancer has spread to distant parts of the body
- People who have previously had radiation therapy to the head or neck area
- People whose tumour is on one side only and requires radiation to one side of the neck only
- People who require radiation to both submandibular glands (saliva glands under the jaw)
- People who had swallowing difficulties before their head and neck cancer diagnosis
- People who have had major head or neck surgery (not including minor procedures such as biopsies or tonsil removal)
- People who have a tracheostomy (a breathing tube in the throat)
- People with another serious illness that, in the doctor's opinion, could interfere with completing treatment, trial assessments, or follow-up
- People who have had another invasive cancer within the past two years (not including certain types of skin cancer or early-stage cervical cancer)
