Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with Broca's aphasia or mixed aphasia, as determined by a Speech-Language Pathologist
- People whose stroke caused damage only in the left side of the brain, confirmed by a CT or MRI scan
- People who are in the chronic stage of recovery, meaning their stroke occurred more than 6 months ago
- People who score between 10% and 60% accuracy on a picture-naming test used to assess language ability
- People aged 18 to 80 years old
- People who were right-handed before their stroke
- People who are able to give written informed consent to participate
- People who are fluent in English
Who may not be able to join:
- People with severe difficulties in thinking, hearing, or vision that would make language and cognitive testing impossible, including an inability to follow a two-step instruction
- People who have metal implants in their skull
- People with a major psychiatric condition that is untreated or not currently stable
- People with a history of epilepsy or seizures
- People currently taking medication that is known to increase the risk of epileptic seizures
- People who have an implanted cardiac stimulator, pacemaker, or vagus nerve stimulator
- People who had speech, language, hearing, or intellectual difficulties during childhood
- People who are pregnant (based on self-declaration)
- People who develop a high level of intolerance to the stimulation used in the trial
- People who experience an epileptic seizure during the trial
- People who develop new neurological or mental symptoms that were not present before the trial began
