Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis (a sudden inflammation of the pancreas) within the last 90 days before joining the study
- You are able to fully take part in all parts of the study, including signing a consent form, completing questionnaires, taking part in phone interviews, undergoing metabolic tests, and attending follow-up visits over time
Who may not be able to join:
- You have already been diagnosed with definite chronic (long-term) pancreatitis, shown by calcium deposits or certain blockages in the pancreas seen on a CT scan, MRI, or related imaging
- Your acute pancreatitis was caused by a specific medical procedure (ERCP) and you were only in the hospital for less than 48 hours because of it
- You have already had a surgical or tube-based procedure to remove or drain dead tissue from your pancreas before joining the study
- You have a tumor of the pancreas, including cancer, hormone-producing tumors, or cancer that has spread to the pancreas
- You have a confirmed or suspected fluid-filled growth (cyst) on the pancreas that is linked to a widened pancreatic duct, or is thought to have caused your pancreatitis (confirm with trial site)
- You have previously had surgery on your pancreas, such as removal of part or all of it
- You are taking certain medications that are not allowed by the study within 30 days before joining (confirm with trial site for the full list)
- You have a serious ongoing illness that could affect the study results or put you at extra risk, including: a history of organ transplant, AIDS, active cancer treatment within the past 12 months (except certain minor skin cancers), severely reduced kidney function or being on dialysis, severe liver scarring (cirrhosis), or any condition where life expectancy is less than 12 months
- You are known to be pregnant at the time of joining the study (note: if you become pregnant during the study, you may be able to continue with some adjustments)
- You are currently incarcerated
- You have any other condition or situation that the research team believes could affect your safety or the reliability of the study results
