Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children in primary school from first grade onwards, between 6 and 12 years old
- Children whose IQ score is above 70, as measured by a standard intelligence test called the WASI-II
- Children identified as having a mathematical learning disability, meaning scores below the 35th percentile on a number processing screening test, and low scores on two or more sections of a standardised math achievement test (WIAT-IV)
- Children identified as typically developing in math, meaning scores at or at or above the 35th percentile on the number processing screening test, and typical scores across all sections of the math achievement test (WIAT-IV)
- Children with normal vision, or vision that is fully corrected with glasses or contact lenses, and no hearing problems
- Children who are right-handed (this applies to the MRI scan part of the study)
Who may not be able to join:
- Children with a history of a neurological or psychiatric condition, such as schizophrenia, psychosis, depression, or ADHD
- Children who have had a head injury in the past
- Children who are currently taking psychiatric medications on a regular basis
- Children who have reasons they cannot safely have an MRI scan, such as having braces, metal implants, a pacemaker, vascular stents, metal ear tubes, regular exposure to metal, or claustrophobia
