Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged between 40 and 75 years old
  • People whose condition is stable and who are taking less than 10mg of prednisone (or a similar steroid medication) per day
  • People who have not smoked for at least 4 months before the screening visit and who are willing to remain smoke-free for the entire study
  • People who have a current pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccination
  • People who have a current flu vaccination
  • People whose lung volume reduction after a previous bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR) procedure was less than 350ml (confirm with trial site)

  • People who are willing and able to attend all required follow-up visits and complete all study procedures

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who produce more than about 4 tablespoons of mucus per day
  • People who have had a heart attack within the 6 months before screening
  • People with heart failure that is not currently controlled
  • People who have had three or more episodes of pneumonia in the past year
  • People who have had three or more COPD flare-ups in the past year
  • People who have previously had a lung transplant, lung volume reduction surgery, or surgical removal of part or all of a lung
  • People with a significant airway condition called bronchiectasis
  • People who are unable to safely stop taking blood thinners or anti-clotting medications for 7 days
  • People with uncontrolled high blood pressure in the lungs, or a related heart condition, as shown on a heart ultrasound done within the last 3 months
  • People whose heart pumping function is below 40%, as shown on a heart ultrasound done within the last 3 months
  • People with a resting heart rate below 50 beats per minute, certain irregular heart rhythms, or a sustained rapid heart rhythm
  • People with carbon dioxide levels above a certain threshold in their blood when breathing normal air at screening (confirm with trial site)
  • People with oxygen levels below a certain threshold in their blood when breathing normal air at screening (confirm with trial site)
