Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who currently have, or have previously had, any type of lymphoma
- People who, if previously treated, have been off chemotherapy that affects bone marrow for at least 2 months, with no chemotherapy planned — or people who have never been treated, or who are on certain ongoing therapies such as rituximab maintenance, BTK inhibitors, venetoclax, tazemetostat, or corticosteroids
- People who are able to eat a full range of solid foods and liquids, including seeds and nuts
- People with a general activity and health status rated as fully active, restricted in strenuous activity, or capable of self-care but unable to work (confirm with trial site for exact rating)
- People willing to provide written consent to take part
- People who are able to recall what they ate in the past 24 hours, with help from a dietitian at each visit
- People willing to attend appointments at the enrolling hospital at the start, at 4 weeks, and at 8 weeks — either in person or by video or phone
- People willing to have a blood magnesium level checked every 2 weeks for a total of 4 checks at any Mayo Clinic location
- People able to complete questionnaires, either independently or with assistance
- People whose blood magnesium level falls between 1.5 and 1.9 mg/dL, measured no more than 5 days before formal registration into the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People who cannot eat normal food by mouth, including those who use any type of feeding tube or who have a swallowing disorder
- People who have taken magnesium supplements (such as magnesium oxide) or received magnesium through an IV within the past 28 days — note: people already taking a multivitamin that contains magnesium may still be considered, but the brand must not be changed during the 8-week study period
- People with serious ongoing illnesses or other severe health conditions that, in the view of the treating doctor, would make participation inappropriate or affect the safety assessment
- People with significant gut conditions that affect nutrient absorption (such as inflammatory bowel disease), or people with moderately severe to severe chronic kidney disease (confirm with trial site for exact kidney function threshold)
- People with uncontrolled ongoing illness, including active infection, poorly controlled heart failure, unstable chest pain, uncontrolled irregular heartbeat, or mental health or social circumstances that would make it difficult to follow the study requirements
- People currently receiving another experimental treatment for lymphoma or any other condition
- People with another active cancer that requires treatment and would interfere with this study
- People who have had major surgery (other than for diagnosis) within the past 4 weeks
- People who have a nut allergy
- People with active skin lymphoma or skin rashes that would prevent lotion testing as part of the study
- People who have taken antibiotics within the past 7 days
