Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (a specific type of esophageal cancer) that has spread to other parts of the body or cannot be surgically removed
- Your cancer has gotten worse after receiving one previous standard treatment that included a platinum-based chemotherapy drug and an immunotherapy drug (a type that targets PD-1 or PD-L1)
- You are able to provide a tissue sample from your tumor, either a previously stored one or a recent one taken during your normal medical care
- Any side effects from your previous cancer treatments have mostly cleared up (returned to mild or baseline levels), with exceptions allowed for certain hormone-related side effects being managed with medication, or mild-to-moderate nerve-related side effects
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer has grown directly into nearby organs such as the aorta (main heart artery) or trachea (windpipe)
- You have lost more than 10% of your body weight in the approximately 2 months before starting the trial
- You have a history of serious dry eye syndrome, serious eyelid gland disease, or serious corneal (eye surface) problems that affect healing
- You have active inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's or ulcerative colitis) currently requiring immune-suppressing medication, or you have a history of inflammatory bowel disease
- You have taken part in another clinical trial or used an experimental medical device within the past 4 weeks
- You have another cancer that is currently active or has required treatment within the last 3 years (certain skin cancers that have been treated may still be eligible — confirm with trial site)
- You have active cancer that has spread to the brain or the lining around the brain or spinal cord
- You have HIV with a history of certain HIV-related conditions (Kaposi's sarcoma or Multicentric Castleman's Disease)
- You have previously received a transplant of tissue or a solid organ from another person
- You have had a significant heart or blood vessel problem within the past 12 months
- You have a high risk of serious gastrointestinal (digestive tract) bleeding, including conditions such as an unhealed wound, a stomach ulcer, a bone fracture within the past 28 days, a bleeding disorder, or a significant bleeding episode from the digestive tract within the past 12 weeks
