Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with a specific type of esophageal cancer (squamous cell carcinoma of the chest portion of the esophagus) at a stage that doctors consider potentially removable by surgery, meeting specific staging criteria (confirm with trial site)
- People who have not received any cancer treatment before
- People whose doctors estimate they have more than 6 months life expectancy
- People aged between 18 and 70 years
- People whose blood test results show healthy levels of white blood cells, neutrophils, platelets, and hemoglobin, and whose liver and kidneys are functioning normally
- People with a good general level of physical functioning, rated 0 or 1 on the WHO performance scale (meaning fully active or able to carry out light work)
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have already had any cancer treatment
- People known or suspected to have an allergy to the study drugs sintilimab, paclitaxel (taxol), or cisplatin
- People who have a bleeding or haemorrhage disorder
- People whose health means they would not be able to safely undergo surgery
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are unable to give informed consent due to psychological, family, social, or other reasons
- People who already have nerve damage in their hands or feet rated at level 2 or above on a standard severity scale
- People who have or have had another type of cancer, except for certain treated skin cancers, early-stage cervical cancer confined to the surface, or early prostate cancer that has been fully cured
- People who have had diabetes for more than 10 years and whose blood sugar levels have not been well controlled
- People with serious heart, lung, liver, kidney, blood, or immune system conditions, or significant unintended weight loss and muscle wasting, that would make chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or surgery unsafe
- People with a history of autoimmune diseases, immune deficiency conditions, or who have had an organ transplant or bone marrow transplant
- People with a history of scarring lung disease or non-infection-related lung inflammation
- People with an active tuberculosis (TB) infection, a TB infection in the past year, or a past TB infection that was not properly treated
- People with active hepatitis B (at levels above a specified threshold) or hepatitis C (confirmed by a positive antibody test)
