Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild Alzheimer's disease

  • People who speak English
  • People who are able to give their own informed consent to participate
  • People who have normal hearing and vision, or who use aids such as glasses or hearing devices that bring these to a normal level

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are currently enrolled in another clinical trial
  • People who are currently using immunotherapy medications for cognition, specifically Aduhelm, Leqembi, or Kisunla
  • People who have been diagnosed with moderate or severe Alzheimer's disease
  • People who are not able to give their own informed consent
  • People who weigh more than 275 pounds
  • People who are pregnant, who think they may be pregnant, or who are trying to become pregnant
  • People who experience claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
  • People who have had difficulties during a previous MRI scan
  • People with certain dental hardware that cannot be removed, including a top permanent retainer, five or more non-removable gold teeth, metal braces, top spacers, or a palate expander (a bottom-only permanent retainer is acceptable)
  • People who have any of the following implanted devices: a cardiac pacemaker, aneurysm clips, cochlear implants, a defibrillator, implanted electrodes or wires, any magnetically activated device, a spinal cord stimulator, infusion or insulin pumps, an implanted drug delivery device, or a deep brain stimulation device
  • People with hairpieces, hair extensions, or piercings that cannot be removed
  • People with facial tattoos or permanent makeup
  • People with metal implants that are not safe for MRI, or where there is not enough information available to confirm MRI safety (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have had a metallic object such as a bullet, BB, or shrapnel enter their body and do not have a doctor's confirmation that it was fully removed
  • People who have been diagnosed with any of the following neurological conditions: Parkinson's disease, ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), multiple sclerosis, or cerebral palsy
  • People who have been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis or sickle cell disease
  • People who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or psychosis
  • People with a psychiatric illness that has not been stable and well-managed for at least the past two months
  • People with severe lung, liver, heart, or kidney disease, such as heart failure or liver failure
  • People who have been diagnosed with a thyroid disorder or who have had their thyroid medication dose changed in the last three months
  • People who have received chemotherapy or radiation treatment to the head or neck, or who have stage 4 (metastatic) cancer
  • People with an autoimmune disorder or a viral infection such as HIV, COVID-19, or hepatitis C that is currently affecting their memory or thinking
  • People with a history of substance abuse within the past year
  • People who have had a stroke (a mini-stroke where symptoms lasted less than one week is not automatically disqualifying — confirm with trial site)
  • People with a history of two or more seizures, or a diagnosis of epilepsy, unless the seizures occurred before age 5 and were associated with a fever
  • People with a history of a brain tumor, brain aneurysm, brain hemorrhage, or subdural hematoma
  • People who have had a head injury that caused loss of consciousness lasting more than 30 minutes, cognitive problems lasting more than 18 months, or visible brain abnormalities on a CT or MRI scan
  • People with uncontrolled high blood pressure or uncontrolled diabetes
  • People who have had a heart attack within the past year
