Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are male and between 45 and 80 years old, with an expected life expectancy of more than 10 years
- You have been diagnosed with intermediate-risk prostate cancer, confirmed by a biopsy, falling into specific risk categories (confirm with trial site)
- Your cancer has not spread beyond the prostate or to nearby lymph nodes or other parts of the body
- Your biopsy was done using specific methods with a minimum number of tissue samples taken, and the results are from within the last 12 months, with at least 6 weeks between your biopsy and your first study visit
- Your PSA blood test result was 20 ng/mL or below, taken within the last 3 months
- You have not yet received any treatment for your prostate cancer
- The area of the prostate planned for treatment is within a certain size limit based on a recent MRI scan taken within the last 6 months
Who may not be able to join:
- You are unable to have an MRI scan or be put under general anaesthesia
- Your tumour is located either too far from or too close to the tube that carries urine through the prostate (confirm with trial site)
- You have calcium deposits larger than 3 mm in the prostate area that could block treatment, as shown on a scan taken within the last year (this may be reviewed further by the study team)
- You currently have an unresolved urinary tract infection or prostate infection
- You have a history of rectal inflammation, bladder stones, blood in the urine, sudden inability to urinate, or a severely impaired bladder caused by nerve problems
- You have an artificial urinary sphincter, a penile implant, or an implant inside the prostate
- Your life expectancy is less than 10 years
- You have been assessed as not being a suitable candidate for prostate removal surgery
- You are unable or unwilling to give your formal consent to take part in the study
- You have a history of scarring or narrowing in the back passage, rectum, or urethra, or any other physical issue that would make it difficult to insert the equipment used in this procedure
