Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 89 years old
- People who have severely reduced vision in both eyes (vision of 20/100 or worse)
- People who have been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration by an eye specialist (Ophthalmologist)
- People whose central retina (the macula) shows significantly reduced light sensitivity compared to the surrounding areas, as measured by a specific eye-scanning device called a MAIA
- People whose medical records show that this level of vision loss has been present for at least 2 years
- People who live within 50 miles of the trial site
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a pacemaker or any ferromagnetic (certain types of) metal implanted anywhere in their body
- People who have any metal implanted in their head (some limited dental work may be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
- People who experience claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
- People who are hearing-impaired
- People who weigh more than 300 pounds
- People whose maximum body width/circumference exceeds 60 inches
- People who have had a serious head injury in the past
- People who experience hallucinations or delusions
- People who have extensive old or colourful tattoos, particularly near the head
- People who are pregnant
- People who have braces or a permanent retainer
