Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People whose general health and ability to carry out daily activities meets a certain minimum level, as measured by a standard medical scale called the Karnofsky Index (score of 70 or above — confirm with trial site what this means for a specific situation)
- People who have been diagnosed with a return of cancer in the pelvis or groin area, confirmed either by tissue sample or medical imaging
- People for whom major surgery is not a safe or suitable option
- People whose cancer has not spread to other parts of the body, or where any known spread has been stable for at least 6 months
- People who have previously received radiation therapy to the pelvic area
- People whose tumour is at least 10mm away from the nearby small intestine, as measured on medical imaging — OR people for whom a small surgical procedure to move the intestine away from the tumour area is possible
- If a spacer (a small device or tissue used to create distance between the tumour and nearby organs) is needed, it must be made from a non-dissolving, body-compatible material such as silicone, Gore-Tex, or natural tissue like fat or muscle
- People whose medical imaging files from their previous radiation treatment are available in a standard digital format (DICOM)
- People who are able to understand the nature and consequences of the trial and provide written agreement to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a hip replacement, metal implants, or any other condition that would interfere with the medical imaging needed to plan treatment
- People whose cancer has grown into the intestinal wall
- People whose cancer has grown into the bladder
- People whose cancer has grown into nearby blood vessels
- People who have previously been treated with a type of drug that targets blood vessel growth (anti-angiogenic drugs)
- People who have a mental health condition or other disorder that would prevent them from being able to give informed consent
- People who have had a separate, different cancer in the past, unless it was a non-melanoma skin cancer — or unless they have been completely free of that cancer for at least 3 years
- People who would require a spacer made from dissolving (absorbable) material, such as Vicryl
- People whose tumour is less than 10mm away from the nearby small intestine on imaging, AND for whom a procedure to create more distance is not possible
- People for whom an MRI scan cannot be performed or assessed
