If you have ALS or are suspected to have ALS:

  • You have been diagnosed with ALS (at any level of certainty) or a related nerve disease that may include ALS features, OR you have been referred to a doctor because ALS is suspected
  • You have a close blood relative (parent, sibling, child, grandparent, aunt/uncle, cousin, etc.) who has or had ALS or a related nerve disease
  • You are over 18 years old
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form approved by an ethics review board

If you are a blood relative of someone with ALS:

  • You have a close blood relative (up to third degree, such as a cousin) who has or had ALS or another motor nerve disease
  • You are over 18 years old
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form approved by an ethics review board

If you are a healthy volunteer:

  • You do not personally have, and no close blood relative has had, ALS or any other motor nerve disease
  • You do not personally have a history of any other brain-degenerating condition (such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease)
  • You are over 18 years old
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form approved by an ethics review board

Who may not be able to join:

  • Anyone (in any group) who does not have the mental capacity to sign a consent form or to have a standard blood draw performed
  • Healthy volunteers who have a personal or family history of dementia, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, or any similar condition
