Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with idiopathic shoulder osteoarthritis (wear-and-tear of the shoulder joint with no known cause)
- People whose shoulder osteoarthritis has not improved after at least 6 months of non-surgical treatment, including pain medications, anti-inflammatory drugs, physiotherapy, and changes to daily activities
- People whose imaging and surgical findings show advanced loss of cartilage in the shoulder joint
- People who have a specific type of shoulder socket problem where the socket is angled backwards between 15.1 and 26 degrees
- People aged 65 years or older
Who may not be able to join:
- People with an active infection in the joint or elsewhere in the body
- People whose shoulder condition involves damage to the rotator cuff tendons (rotator cuff arthropathy)
- People with significant muscle weakness or paralysis in the shoulder
- People with Charcot's arthropathy, a condition involving nerve-related joint damage (confirm with trial site)
- People with serious medical conditions where life expectancy is less than one year, or where surgery would carry an unacceptably high risk
- People who are unable to understand or complete the consent process
- People who are pregnant
- People with a psychiatric illness that prevents them from giving informed consent
- People who are unwilling to attend follow-up appointments for the full duration of the study
- People whose shoulder socket angle cannot be surgically corrected to within 10 degrees of a neutral position
- People who have previously had surgery on the affected shoulder
- People who have rheumatoid arthritis in the affected shoulder
