Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma (a specific type of cancer) confirmed by a tissue biopsy.
• People whose cancer is located in the middle or lower part of the food pipe (oesophagus), within the chest area.
• People aged between 18 and 70 years.
• People who are generally well enough to carry out normal daily activities with little or no limitation (confirm with trial site for exact fitness level required).
• People whose cancer met specific staging criteria — either at a certain stage with lymph node involvement before surgery, or at an earlier stage where cancer was found in lymph nodes after surgery — and who have had chemotherapy before surgery or surgery first (confirm with trial site for exact staging details).

• People who had surgery to remove the oesophagus using a minimally invasive or open surgical approach, with complete removal of the cancer and no cancer cells left at the edges, and with an adequate number of lymph nodes removed.
• People who have not previously received treatment for any other cancer.
• People whose blood counts are within an acceptable healthy range, showing the bone marrow is working well enough.
• People whose liver is functioning within acceptable limits based on blood test results.
• People whose kidneys are functioning at an adequate level based on a standard calculation.
• People with normal thyroid function.
• People who have provided written consent to participate.

Who may not be able to join:

• People who received chemotherapy combined with radiation therapy before surgery (neoadjuvant chemoradiation).
• People whose cancer showed a complete response to treatment, meaning no cancer cells were found in the removed tissue after surgery.
• People from whom fewer than 15 lymph nodes were removed during surgery.
• People whose cancer was at a specific earlier stage with lymph node involvement and who went straight to surgery without other treatment first.
• People whose cancer was not able to be fully removed due to very large affected lymph nodes or extensive local spread, and who received initial chemotherapy.
• People who require ongoing steroid medication taken throughout the body (not just topical use).
• People who developed serious complications after surgery that make additional treatment unsuitable.
• People who have had another separate cancer either at the same time or within the past 5 years.
• People who have previously received immunotherapy treatment.
• People who currently have an active infection requiring medication that works throughout the body.
• People who have previously had an organ transplant or a stem cell transplant from another person.
• People living with HIV.
• People with a psychiatric (mental health) condition.
• People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or are women who could become pregnant.
• People who have a known allergy or sensitivity to the drug Sintilimab.
