Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who have had their prostate removed (radical prostatectomy) for prostate cancer, and whose PSA blood test result is 0.2 mcg/L or higher
- Adults aged 18 or older who have had radiation therapy, cryotherapy, or brachytherapy for prostate cancer, and whose PSA level has risen to 2 mcg/L or higher across at least two tests, OR whose PSA level has been doubling in less than 9 months
- Adults aged 18 or older with biopsy-confirmed prostate cancer that had certain high-risk features before treatment — specifically a Gleason score of 7 or higher, a PSA level of 20 mcg/L or higher, or a cancer stage of at least T2c — and who went on to receive surgery, radiation, or a similar treatment
- Adults aged 18 or older who do not meet the above criteria, but whose treating Urologist, Radiation Oncologist, Medical Oncologist, or Nuclear Medicine physician (licensed in Alberta) determines that this specific scan is likely to provide a clinical benefit
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to give informed consent to participate
- People who weigh more than 225 kg, due to the weight limit of the scanning equipment
- People who are unable to lie still and flat for approximately 30 minutes to complete the scan
- People who do not have a suitable vein available for an intravenous line
- People who have previously had an allergic reaction to the imaging agent used in this trial (18F-PSMA-1007)
- People who live outside of Alberta, the Northwest Territories, or Yukon Territory in Canada
- People under 18 years of age
Note: Being on hormone therapy to reduce testosterone (androgen deprivation therapy) does not prevent someone from taking part in this trial.
