Who might be able to join this trial:

For people already diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus (a condition affecting the lining of the food pipe) who are attending a routine check-up scope:

• People attending a routine monitoring endoscopy (camera procedure) for Barrett's esophagus with no current abnormal cell changes, including those who previously had minor cell changes but whose most recent endoscopy showed no abnormalities
• People whose Barrett's esophagus affects at least a minimal measurable length of the food pipe
• People who speak English or Spanish
• People who are able to understand and complete a consent form
• People aged 18 to 89 years
• People with a life expectancy of at least 2 years

For people attending an endoscopy to check whether they have Barrett's esophagus for the first time:

• People having an endoscopy to find out if they have Barrett's esophagus
• People whose Barrett's esophagus (if found) affects at least a minimal measurable length of the food pipe
• People who speak English or Spanish
• People who are able to understand and complete a consent form
• People aged 18 to 89 years
• People with a life expectancy of at least 2 years

Who may not be able to join:

For people attending routine monitoring endoscopy:

• People who are having their endoscopy to assess or manage previously diagnosed abnormal or cancerous cell changes in the food pipe
• People with active, significant inflammation and damage to the food pipe lining (graded B or higher on a standard medical scale)
• People who have swollen veins in the food pipe (esophageal varices)
• People who have previously had a procedure to remove or destroy abnormal tissue in the food pipe
• People who have previously had surgery on the food pipe or stomach, unless it was a straightforward anti-reflux procedure (fundoplication) with no complications
• People who are pregnant

For people attending a first-time screening endoscopy:

• People who are having their endoscopy to assess or manage previously diagnosed abnormal or cancerous cell changes in the food pipe
• People with active, significant inflammation and damage to the food pipe lining (graded B or higher on a standard medical scale)
• People who have swollen veins in the food pipe (esophageal varices)
• People who have previously had surgery on the food pipe or stomach, unless it was a straightforward anti-reflux procedure (fundoplication) with no complications
• People who are pregnant
