Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older, of any gender
- People who have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis, bone tissue death (osteonecrosis), or arthritis caused by a past injury, in the affected joint
- People who are having a first-time total knee replacement, total hip replacement, or hip resurfacing surgery
- People receiving either cemented or non-cemented joint implants
- People who are willing and able to sign a consent form, follow the study requirements, and attend follow-up appointments
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable or unwilling to sign a consent form
- People who do not speak English or French, and where no licensed translator, family member, or substitute decision-maker is available
- People who have previously had a joint replacement in the same joint being treated
- People whose procedure involves a specific type of solid implant made with hydroxyapatite (HA) (confirm with trial site)
- People who have a cancer diagnosis affecting the joint being treated
- People having a different type of joint replacement procedure, such as a partial knee replacement or a hemi-arthroplasty (where only part of the joint is replaced)
- People with a known allergy to any ingredient in the XP Advanced Surgical Irrigation solution used in the trial
- People with a known allergy to iodine
- People with an active infection, a weakened immune system, poorly controlled HIV, or those who have had a solid organ or bone marrow transplant — or who are taking certain medications that affect the immune system (confirm details with trial site)
- People who have had a joint infection in the affected joint within two years before surgery
- People who have had a steroid injection into the affected joint within the three months before surgery
- People who are having both joints (left and right) replaced at the same time in the same operation
