Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who are 18 years of age or older at the time of signing the consent form
• People who had a stroke caused by a blockage in the brain (not a bleed) between 1 and 14 days ago, confirmed by a brain scan (MRI or CT)
• People who are willing and able to sign a consent form before any study procedures begin
• People whose stroke has caused new weakness in one arm or hand, with a movement ability score of 50 points or less on a standard arm movement scale (FMA-UE)
• People whose affected hand still shows a detectable electrical signal from the brain's movement pathways when tested (called a motor evoked potential, or MEP) — this test can be repeated up to 14 days after the stroke if the first attempt is unsuccessful
• People whose brain shows a detectable brainwave pattern (a rhythmic signal at 8–12 Hz) on the side of the brain affected by the stroke, measured by a brainwave recording test (EEG), with a clear enough signal quality (confirm with trial site)
• People who are able to attend all required study visits and follow the study schedule

Who may not be able to join:

• People whose stroke was caused by a bleed inside the brain (note: bleeding that occurs as a secondary effect within an area of stroke may not be excluded — confirm with trial site)
• People with an estimated life expectancy of less than 12 months
• People who have ferromagnetic (certain types of) metal inside their skull (some metal stents located well away from the treatment device may be acceptable — confirm with trial site)
• People who have metal in their eyes or cochlear (hearing) implants
• People who have an active implanted medical device, such as a heart defibrillator, that could be affected by the brain stimulation used in the study
• People who have a gap or opening in the skull bone (for example, following brain surgery) that could interfere with the brain stimulation used in the study
• People with a history of seizures or epilepsy
• People for whom treatment cannot begin within 14 days of the stroke starting
• People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
• People currently taking part in certain other clinical studies, particularly those involving medical devices or medicines, where insurance or legal conflicts may arise (the trial site will assess this on a case-by-case basis)
• People with an ongoing, persistent addiction disorder (nicotine dependence is not excluded)
• People with a cancerous tumour of the brain or central nervous system
• People whom the trial investigator considers unsuitable for participation for any safety or other reason
• People who are unable to speak will have their ability to consent assessed separately by an independent doctor using a specific assessment score (confirm with trial site for details)
