Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged between 18 and 35 years old
• People who have experienced their first episode of a psychotic illness that started within the last three years
• People who have been diagnosed (using standard psychiatric guidelines called DSM-5) with schizophrenia, schizophreniform disorder, or schizoaffective disorder
• People who are currently taking a type of antipsychotic medication known as a second-generation antipsychotic
• People whose estimated pre-illness intellectual ability falls at or above a certain level, as measured by a standard reading test
• People who are able to safely undergo brain scanning, meaning no pacemaker or metal implants in the body, and who are willing to be scanned
• People who speak and understand English well enough to follow the testing instructions
• People who have vision of at least 20/30, whether naturally or with corrective lenses

Who may not be able to join:

• People where substance use makes it unclear whether the psychotic illness is the correct diagnosis (for example, if the psychosis may have been caused by drugs or alcohol)
• People who have had a moderate or severe alcohol or drug use disorder in the past three months
• People with a significant medical condition (such as epilepsy) or a significant past head injury
• People who are currently pregnant
• People who have taken sedatives or anti-anxiety medications on the day of the assessment
• People who have had a change in their medication within three weeks before joining the trial
