Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 50 and 90 years old (male or female)
- You have been diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment or dementia related to Alzheimer's disease, based on recognised medical guidelines
- Your score on a standard depression questionnaire (called the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale) is below 10, meaning little or no depression
- Your level of cognitive decline has been rated at 0.5 or higher on a standard memory and thinking assessment (called the Clinical Dementia Rating scale)
- A neurological check-up has not found any major signs of other nerve-related problems
- You have a reliable and consistent caregiver who can support you during the trial
- You completed at least primary school (up to grade 6) and are able to take part in thinking and memory tests and cognitive training activities
Who may not be able to join:
- Your memory or thinking problems are caused by something other than Alzheimer's, such as stroke, brain infection, Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease, head injury, alcohol or drug use, liver or lung disease, a brain tumour, thyroid problems, or vitamin deficiencies
- You have a history of nervous system conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, or optic myelitis
- You have a psychiatric condition such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, or delirium
- You have serious or unstable problems with your heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, or blood, or a serious illness such as cancer with a poor outlook
- You have vision or hearing difficulties that would affect your ability to complete thinking and memory tests
- You have a history of heavy alcohol use or drug misuse in the past two years
- The research team feels you may not be able to complete the full study (confirm with trial site)
- You are unable to have an MRI or PET scan for any reason
