For patients:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You have been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and have already attended at least two multidisciplinary appointments at the ALS center in Marseille, including a session with a clinical psychologist
  • You have a moderate to severe level of physical disability due to ALS (a specific disability rating of grade 3 to 5 — confirm with trial site)
  • You have a close family member (such as a spouse or child) living with you at home who is willing to take part in the study
  • You are covered by French social security or an equivalent plan

For family caregivers:

Who may not be able to join:

For patients:

  • You have a serious and unstable illness affecting the heart, liver, kidneys, or cancer, or have a serious psychiatric condition such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder
  • You are largely independent and do not need help with basic daily tasks
  • You live alone at home or in a care facility
  • You have memory or thinking difficulties that affect your daily life
  • You experience strong, uncontrollable emotional outbursts (such as uncontrollable crying) caused by ALS
  • You were diagnosed with ALS less than 6 months ago
  • You are not fully aware of how serious your condition is
  • Any other reason the study doctor or psychologist feels would make participation unsuitable (confirm with trial site)

For family caregivers:

  • You have a serious and unstable illness affecting the heart, liver, kidneys, or another major organ
  • You have a history of psychiatric illness
