Who might be able to join this trial:
Initial enrolment (after a possible mini-stroke/TIA):
- People who have been assessed by a stroke specialist doctor for a possible mini-stroke (TIA), whether or not a firm diagnosis has been made
- People who have been prescribed blood-thinning medication (such as antiplatelet drugs or anticoagulants) following that assessment
- People aged 18 or older
- People who are able to eat and drink normally by mouth
If a stroke occurs later during the study:
- People with brain scan evidence (CT or MRI) showing a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel
- People whose stroke is thought to be caused by a blood clot travelling from the heart, a large artery in the neck, or a clot forming directly in a brain artery
- People aged 18 or older
- People who are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are able to eat and drink normally by mouth
Who may not be able to join:
At initial enrolment:
- People who are unable to give their own consent to participate
- People who cannot eat or drink by mouth
- People with a short life expectancy
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People whose symptoms are clearly caused by something other than reduced blood flow to a part of the brain
If a stroke occurs later during the study:
- People who did not previously agree to follow-up blood tests as part of the study
- People who cannot eat or drink by mouth
- People with a short life expectancy
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
