Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with moderate or severe depression (including bipolar disorder currently in a depressive phase), an anxiety disorder (such as panic disorder or generalised anxiety disorder), or a psychotic disorder (such as schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder), confirmed through a structured clinical interview.
- You have tried at least one psychiatric medication in the past that either did not work well enough, was not tolerated, or had to be stopped due to side effects.
- You are about to switch — or have switched within the last 2 weeks — to one of the following medications: sertraline or escitalopram (for depression or anxiety), or aripiprazole or risperidone (for psychotic disorders), because your previous medication was not working or was not tolerable.
- You are currently receiving psychiatric care, either as a hospital inpatient or as an outpatient.
- You are able to understand what the study involves and are willing to sign a consent form to take part.
- You agree to allow the research team to access relevant information from your medical records for the purposes of this study.
- You are aged 16 or over but under 70 years old.
- You own a smartphone that runs either Android or iOS (Apple).
Who may not be able to join:
- You have previously had genetic testing related to how your body processes medications (pharmacogenomic testing).
- You have never taken any psychiatric medication before.
- You have a serious physical health condition, such as significant liver disease, kidney disease, poorly controlled diabetes, or a heart condition involving an irregular heart rhythm called a prolonged QT interval (confirm with trial site if unsure whether your condition qualifies).
- You currently have problems with alcohol or drug misuse or dependence (smoking/nicotine is not included in this).
- You regularly take five or more medications in total, including any prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, or herbal/complementary remedies.
- You are unable to use a smartphone app.
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
