Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with prostate cancer (adenocarcinoma type), confirmed by a tissue or cell sample.
- Your prostate cancer is classified as low to intermediate risk according to standard cancer guidelines.
- You have not received any previous treatment for prostate cancer.
- You are 18 years of age or older.
- You are generally able to carry out daily activities and care for yourself (confirm with trial site).
- Your doctor has determined you are suitable to receive a specific type of internal radiation treatment called HDR brachytherapy.
- You are able to understand and willing to sign a consent form to participate.
- If you have HIV, you are on effective treatment and your virus levels have been undetectable for at least the past 6 months.
- If you have chronic hepatitis B, your virus levels must be undetectable while on appropriate treatment.
- If you have had hepatitis C, you must have been successfully treated and cured, or currently be on treatment with undetectable virus levels.
- If you have had or currently have another type of cancer, it must not interfere with this trial's treatment or results (confirm with trial site).
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had any previous treatment for prostate cancer.
- You have previously received hormone therapy to lower testosterone (androgen deprivation therapy).
- You are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving an experimental treatment.
- Your pre-procedure health assessment raises concerns about safely undergoing the HDR brachytherapy procedure (confirm with trial site).
- You have medical reasons why you cannot safely receive general anesthesia.
- You have medical reasons why you cannot safely receive radiation therapy.
- You have previously had a freezing treatment (cryotherapy) applied to your prostate.
- You have had a surgical procedure to remove prostate tissue (called TURP) within the last 6 months.
