Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with Barrett's Esophagus (a condition affecting the lining of the food pipe) where the affected area is longer than 3cm, or people with a confirmed diagnosis of a type of food pipe cancer called esophageal adenocarcinoma
- People who are mentally able to understand the treatment plan being proposed and can give their written agreement to participate
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who do not have any other active cancer at the same time
- People who are not currently enrolled in another clinical trial that would conflict with this one
- People who are not currently taking ongoing immune-suppressing or hormone-based medications, with the exception of chemotherapy given before a main treatment (confirm with trial site)
- People who do not have serious failure of any major organ (such as the heart, kidneys, or liver)
- People who are not pregnant and are not breastfeeding
- People who are willing and able to provide written consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have an active infection caused by bacteria, a virus, or a fungus
- People who have liver disease affecting the tissue of the liver, including any stage of scarring of the liver (cirrhosis)
- People who have a high risk of bleeding during a tissue sample procedure, such as those taking blood-thinning medications or who have swollen veins in the food pipe
- People whose food pipe cancer is of a different type, called squamous cell carcinoma
- People who test positive for a stomach bacteria called Helicobacter pylori at the time a tissue sample is taken
- People who have previously had a heat-based treatment called radiofrequency ablation on their food pipe
- People with a psychiatric condition that affects their ability to understand information and make judgements
