Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are over 18 years old (male or female)
- You have been newly diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus (food pipe), confirmed by a tissue sample to be either squamous cell carcinoma or adenocarcinoma (the two most common types)
- Your cancer is at a stage that is considered local or locally advanced but has not spread to distant parts of the body, and doctors believe it can be removed with surgery
- You have been assessed by a team of specialist doctors (a multidisciplinary team) and are considered suitable for combined treatment
- You are able to understand and sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic disease)
- Your tissue sample shows a different type of cancer, such as neuroendocrine carcinoma or lymphoma, rather than the two types listed above
- You currently have another active cancer
- You have already received chemotherapy combined with radiation treatment before being assessed by the specialist team
- Your treatment plan does not include surgery — for example, if chemotherapy alone (without radiation) or radiation with chemotherapy as the main treatment (without planned surgery) has been recommended

Primary endpoints
To assess the potency of ctDNA MRD variant allele frequency to improve clinical staging at diagnosis of esophageal cancer.; To correlate the presence of minimal residual disease after resection as assessed by ctDNA with disease recurrence.; To observe the ctDNA MRD dynamics during adjuvant immunotherapy .
