Who might be able to join this trial:

All participants must meet these general criteria:

• You must be able to understand what the study involves and what it is trying to achieve
• You must be able to lie still inside an MRI scanner on your back for the full length of the scans
• You must be able to give written consent freely and without pressure

If you are a healthy volunteer:

• You are between 18 and 45 years old
• You have no known or diagnosed lung conditions such as breathing failure, COPD, asthma, or lung cancer
• You are able to lie completely still in an MRI scanner on your stomach for up to 50 minutes
• You are a non-smoker and do not vape

If you have asthma:

• You are between 18 and 80 years old
• You are a non-smoker and do not vape
• You have been diagnosed with moderate asthma (as defined by international asthma guidelines called GINA) for at least 6 months, OR you have been diagnosed with severe asthma for at least 6 months and your lung specialist is planning to start you on a biological therapy

If you have COPD:

• You are between 40 and 80 years old
• You have been diagnosed with moderate COPD (a specific lung function level known as GOLD 2) OR severe COPD (a specific lung function level known as GOLD 3) (confirm with trial site)

If you have had a double lung transplant and have a condition called BOS (a type of lung rejection):

• You are between 18 and 90 years old
• Your lung function (FEV1) has dropped irreversibly to below 80% of your personal baseline, with a specific breathing ratio below 0.7 (confirm with trial site)
• Your CT scan does not show a mixed type of lung rejection condition called RAS/CLAD
• You do not have a significant narrowing in your airways that has needed a procedure to treat it
• Your diaphragm (the main breathing muscle) is working normally, confirmed by a specific test (confirm with trial site)

If you have had a double lung transplant and do NOT have BOS:

• You are between 18 and 90 years old
• Your lung function has stayed above 90% of your personal baseline for more than 24 months since your transplant
• You do not have a significant narrowing in your airways that has needed a procedure to treat it
• Your diaphragm is working normally, confirmed by a specific test (confirm with trial site)

Who may not be able to join:

• Healthy volunteers who smoke or vape are not eligible
• Healthy volunteers who have any known and diagnosed lung condition are not eligible
• Asthma or COPD patients who smoke or vape are not eligible
• Lung transplant patients who have a mixed type of rejection condition (called RAS/CLAD) are not eligible
• Lung transplant patients who have had significant airway narrowing requiring a procedure are not eligible
• Lung transplant patients whose diaphragm is not functioning normally are not eligible
